I found this article while looking for dogs in the news, but it fits right into our dog health section. It's about a Bella, a Los Angeles Fire Department Certified Search and Rescue dog (a veteran of Oklahoma City and many other disasters) who developed cancer, and how with a lot of help from a lot of good folks, defeated it. The best part is where the author tells us what to look for to catch this altogether too common canine ailment early. "Hollywood dogs 'speak' about canine cancer" by W. Reed Moran in USAToday.com.

I'm talking about "Electric Collar Conditioning", which I used to think was awful and have come to think is an excellent and humane way to train your dog. "FDA Approves First Injectable Heartworm Drug for Dogs" from the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) Talk Paper. Personally, I find that Katie loves the once a month "treats", but it is easy to forget to give them to her. I don't know whether the new injection will cost more or less than the old fashioned monthly pills. Worth looking into.
