From a review in The Washington Post by Jonathan Yardley: "Only a few books have stayed with me through all the moves and upheavals of adult life, but "Thurber's Dogs" is one of them, and it will stay with me to the end. Still, my copy is--to use the exactly appropriate word--dogeared, and after all the good service it has done it deserves to rest undisturbed on the shelves. So, since "Thurber's Dogs" has been out of print for some years, it is good to have this new edition of the master's reflections on his favorite animal, as edited by Michael J. Rosen. Thurber wrote and drew, primarily for the New Yorker, from the 1920s until his death in 1961. In that time he was one of the country's most famous and beloved writers; those who do not know his work could do far worse than to begin here. Many (though not all) of his classic dog drawings are to be found here, along with equally notable prose pieces, among them 'A Snapshot of Rex,' 'The Dog That Bit People,' 'Look Homeward, Jeannie' and 'Memorial.'"
