I had two neighbors a few years back ... one loved to jog all over the neighborhood every morning and the other kept two Rottweilers who loved to bark through the fence at anyone who passed their house. One day the dogs managed to knock down the fence as my jogger neighbor went by and they nearly killed him. We all said, "What awful dogs." We learned later that the Rottweiler neighbor was a drug dealer (yes, they can be found in nice, middle-class neighborhoods, too) and he had trained his dogs to be vicious to intruders. So, we didn't have a case of awful dogs; we had a case of an awful owner. Rotties are great dogs, but they must be properly trained and managed. "Rottweilers can be friends, therapy dogs, too" from Pet Tales with Linda Wilson Fuoco, in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
