A Word From Frank:

Frank Fleischer
Nonna caught me sneaking some candy earlier today, and I swore off once again. Sugar is one of the most addictive substances known to humankind. Wish me luck!

Yoga practice is a very big part of our lives. I've been going to yoga class two or three times a week for about six years now. I've decided it's the most effective anti-aging tool around. Iyengar yoga, which we follow, is neither overly spiritual nor is it very aerobic. You work on precise alignment in various poses and sort of meditate within the pose. It's very calming mentally and enriching physically. I've noticed I have greater strength than I did when I started, and the only weights I've lifted have been my arms and legs! I saw an old school chum recently after a ten-year period during which we had been apart, and he told me I look better now than I did ten years ago! That sure beats all the cosmetic stuff everyone is doing. I strongly suggest finding a good yoga teacher in your area and getting into it.

Ever notice how dogs stretch their backs when they first get up? They know something we don't. In yoga, there's a posture called the dog pose, and it looks a lot like the way Katie looks when stretches before she starts moving after a nap. It's the greatest thing you can do to stretch your back and open up your chest. I heartily recommend it.

See you next time. Wishing you a warm puppy 'til then.
Frank

Featured Website: Dog Names

http://www.dog-names.us/

Over 6,000 popular dog names in a free searchable database. Pick your category (like affectionate, nature, cartoon characters and lots more, select boy or girl, and Submit. You'll get a bunch of possibilities, with the meaning and other information about the name. Just for fun I selected the category Food, and got some winners like Ambrosia, Caviar, Marshmellow and Strudel. Did you know that Ambrosia is the food of the Gods, or that it was the name of the dog in Jim Henson's (of Muppets fame) 1986 movie 'Labyrinth', starring Davied Bowie?
The Puppy Corner: Caring for a new puppy

http://flfl.essortment.com/newpuppy_rcme.htm

Lots of good sense here about how to take care of your new puppy. Particularly if you've never done it before, a little advance preparation will save you tons of time and trouble and ensure that you'll have a truly loved and valued addition to your family. Covers feeding, bathing, vaccinating and training, among other things. Valuable article.
Dog Health & Nutrition: Thanksgiving Safety Tips For Your Pet

http://www.nbc4.tv/pettalk/1806548/detail.html

Holidays can be especially good times for humans and especially bad times for our pets. Most of us thrive on family visits and the like for Thanksgiving, and most pets are very happy just to be left with their regular daily routine. It's a time that can be very upsetting and even dangerous for them. Take some timely tips from Dr. Karen Halligan of Southern California's NBC4 Pet Talk... Max will thank you.

What our customers say: “The two beds I ordered arrived today. I thought that all the letters I had read about dogs that 'immediately knew the beds were for them' were somewhat exaggerated. I was wrong. Even the dog we've had for four years that wouldn't even climb up on the couch with our old dog climbed into her new Kuranda bed and snuggled into the sheepskin like it was an old friend. We are amazed! Even the cats (we have three) are liking the beds, especially when the dogs go outside. The animals look so comfortable that my husband and I may order a couple of beds for us! Just kidding... We are looking forward to the future with our happier pets. Thank you!”

Dogs in the News: Pit bull ban 'barking up wrong tree'

http://www.yorkregion.com/yr/newscentre/georginaadvocate/story/2321515p-2688711c.html

The Ontario (Canada) provincial government has proposed legislation to ban pit bulls in the province. This article on yorkregion.com (serving the area near Toronto where I just happen to live) is a well stated explanation of why, in my opinion, breed-specific bans are not the way to go.

My native California is the most populous state in the U.S., with over 35,000,000 residents. This would make it the 34th most populous country in the world! With that many people, and with so many of them owning dogs, the homeless dog problem in California is huge. Our featured site to the 'rescue'...
