| A Word From Frank: I thought you might like a change of scenery this week, from my rather every-day face to Katie's beautiful face. With all the nasty viruses and worms crawling around the internet these days, we all have to be more and more careful all the time. If you use Microsoft Windows and/or any Microsoft software on your computer, reading this Security & Privacy article from microsoft.com is a MUST. It explains in language even your Aunt Fannie can understand the three simple ingredients we must all have these days to keep us safe. (I actually had a great-aunt Fannie). Do yourself and everyone with whom you communicate by email a favor. Look at it and DO IT! And tell your friends to do the same. Let's stamp out this garbage. And now, on with the show. See you next time. Wishing you a warm puppy 'til then. Frank | |||||

Featured Website: Animal Behavior - Dogs for Kids http://animalbehaviour.net/KidsPages/Dogs.html One of the great things you can do for the children in your life is make sure they know about dogs, how to respect them and how to care for them. A great way to begin is to show them the Dogs for Kids site, where they can learn how dogs communicate, how to say hello to a dog, what to do if you are frightened by a dog, and how to hold a dog. |
Dog Health & Nutrition: Canine First Aid Kit http://www.greytdogs.com/firstaid.html Most of us are guilty of procrastination in many things. The problem, of course, is that when you need something for an emergency, it's too late to get it. I've had it in the back of my mind for years to put together a proper first aid kit for Katie, and now that I have this article from Greytdogs.com in front of me, I think I'll just do it. |
Dog Activities and Training: Pulling on Leash http://www.joelwalton.com/gpage1.html When you take your pup for a walk, do your neighbors ask, "Who's taking whom for a walk?" Expert dog trainer Joel Walton explains the problem and its solution. |
Patented, Chewproof Kuranda Dog Beds. What our customers say: "Having recently ordered and received 8 Kuranda beds for our small 8-run rescue I and the rest of the volunteers are amazed at how they have changed the dogs' dispositions. All they want to do is lie around! No more dog fights, just a bunch of lazy dogs hanging out on their beds. At feeding time one of the dogs hangs her head over the side of the bed to eat her food! I was a doubting Thomas for awhile but your beds are the best thing to happen to our kennel." Jane Galvin, Big Canoe Animal Rescue from a trusted sponsor |
Dogs in the News: Officers seize 91 dogs in Muscatine County (Iowa) http://www.wcfcourier.com/articles/2003/09/20/news/breaking_news/187c49024800984286256da70045251a.txt It seems like it never stops, a bad actor somewhere keeps too many dogs under terrible conditions, and officials have to step in and at least try to set things right. If you live anywhere near Muscatine County, Iowa, and have a little space in your home and your heart for another best friend, consider getting in touch with the shelter and see if you can help out. |

Featured Dog Book: Raw Dog Food: Make It Easy for You and Your Dog, by Carina Beth McDonald Raw feeding is the hottest topic in dog care today. You may have heard about the "BARF" diet - Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods. Learn why and how to feed your dog this new (but really OLD) diet. This new book explains in simple, friendly and understandable terms the logic behind this approach. Fun and slightly irreverent, it shows you how feeding your dog a raw diet can be effective, economical, and easy for you and healthy for your dog. Learn how to make it work for your dog and you! New from Dogwise.com, home of the largest and best selection of dog books on the internet. |
Featured Rescue Site: Kyler Laird's animal rescue resources http://www.ecn.purdue.edu/~laird/animal_rescue/ Sometimes in this section I feature specific rescue sites I've seen (I'm still looking for the card I took when I saw some wonderful people at a weekend farmers' market this summer when I was in California... if we had been closer to home, I'm almost sure Nonna would have insisted we take home one little guy she fell in love with). From time to time I like to give you a directory of rescue organizations and shelters by location and breed so you can find what you need when you need it. I'm always looking at what's available out there in cyberspace, and I keep coming back to Kyler Laird's site. It's all there, and up to date. |
