| A Word From Frank: You may have heard of the newest kid on the internet block, the "blog", short for "web log". It's a web page that serves as a publicly-accessible personal journal for an individual. Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author, but they're certainly not limited to that. The best part of blogs is that they are continually updated, always fresh, and when you find one that is devoted to one of your interests, you'll want to keep reading it. We featured a dog-related blog here a while ago, in issue 152, called "Dog News". This week our Featured Web Site is an ambitious new blog called "DogReader". It threatens to be something we'll all want to keep our eye on, perhaps every day. We use our computers a lot, but that doesn't mean we're immune to computer problems. Just as I was putting the finishing touches on this issue on Saturday, my computer crashed. Spent all day Sunday and Monday putting everything back together again. Sorry you're getting this late this week. See you again next week. Wishing you a warm puppy 'til then. Frank | |||||
Featured Website: DogReader DogReader is a new web log that will bring us an interesting and useful article every week day (US holidays excluded) devoted to further our understanding of our best friends and to enhance our relationship with them. The editor promises that it will be an ever growing resource for people who care about dogs (that's us, huh?). If the first articles are any indication, we're in for a great ride. They are 'Locations, Locations, Locations ...!!!', A Game', 'Dinner Time', 'The Car Ride', 'The Last Word', 'When to Ignore Your Dog', 'Confusing English', 'Barking', Always A Positive Welcome', and 'Dogs and Seizures'. Every one of these articles is enjoyable to read and packed with useful information to help improve your relationship with your best friend. Definitely a site to bookmark and return to often.
Dog Health & Nutrition: Feeding Puppy Right, Right from the Start Ask ten experts about how to feed a puppy and I think you'll get ten different opinions. But there are some common threads to all their opinions and this article from writedog.com does a pretty good job of covering all the bases. You might not agree with everything in the article, but it will get you thinking about what you need to know.
Dog Activities and Training: How to Teach a Puppy Not to Bite Perhaps the biggest problem people (particularly people without much dog experience) have with puppies is biting. Mouthing is a perfectly normal canine activity, and and to insure a successful relationship with this potential best friend, we must not let this normal behavior become a problem. This article from doglogic.com by Ann Dresselhaus tells us how.

Dogs in the News: Doggone it! That isn't a live dog after all When we search our online news sources each week for things to put in this section of The Straight Poop, we're usually looking for articles of general interest about dogs. But once in a while something tickles our funnybone, like this article from The Singapore Straits Times about a cute little pup lying in a box in front of a fancy hotel.
