Or you may have been procrastinating taking care of protecting yourself. The internet has been hit recently by a VERY NASTY new virus that use a technique known as "spoofing". It chooses at random an address in the address book on an infected computer, and using that innocent address as the "From:" address, sends itself to a whole bunch more addresses it finds on the infected computer. Numerous cases have been reported in which users of uninfected computers receive complaints that they have sent an infected message to someone else, when in fact they have done no such thing. It's happened to us here at The Straight Poop and Breeders.NET. People have sent us angry letters, and we have to gently tell them that we are fully protected and it isn't our fault. The owner of the infected computer has NO IDEA this is going on. That's why it is so important for EVERYONE to have adequate and UP-TO-DATE virus protection software. Up-to-date means regularly checking to see that your virus definitions are current, using the system provided by the various software companies.
